Cayenne peppers are a group of tapering, 5 to 10 inches long, generally skinny, mostly red-colored peppers, often with a curved tip and somewhat rippled skin, which hang from the bush as opposed to growing upright. Most varieties are generally rated at 30,000 to 50,000 Scoville units.
The Carolina Reaper is the current official hottest pepper in the world. How hot? With a heat range from 1,400,000 to 2,200,000 Scoville heat units, the Reaper is hotter than many defensive pepper sprays and it dwarfs many of the other super-hots among the hottest chilies.
A favorite of the St. Augustine area. Datil peppers are present in most of our hot sauces. A datil pepper is similar in its heat index to a habanero, hitting at around 100,000 to 300,000 on the Scoville scale. Unlike Habaneros, Datil peppers are sweet, with a fruitful tangy taste.
